The Hottest thing since a toasted panini..

THE NEW OLYMPUS E-P1 Micro-4/3rd digital camera..!

Now I seldom discuss about equipment, but last September 2008, I blogged about the Panasonic Lumix G1, which was the first digital camera body housing a 4/3rds sensor with a totally new design, devoid of an SLR mirror and prism, thus, allowing for a narrower, smaller and hence lighter system with interchangeable lenses. The new Olympus E-P1 looks very 'retro' - reminding me of the 80's Pen series, and Trip bodies, and I AM excited! This looks even smaller than the G1 especially with the 17mm f2.8 'pancake' lens. See this link.

For serious amateur and professional photographers, what this means is that you can now have dSLR quality enlargements in compact point 'n' shoot bodies, plus the added bonus of interchangeable lenses. Also, because of its compact dimensions, you are more likely to be carrying it as opposed to leaving it at home. Now, perhaps I will sell my Canon 5D system after all..

Absolutely agree. Compact forms allow one to be carried all the time. No excuse for missing alien spaceship landings in Bangsar whilst chilling in Coffee Bean anymore!

Actually I am looking for a good compact too. But still can't find any that I really need. Some of te models may not be available in Malaysia, or even is a small town such as Kota Bharu, Kelantan.
Btw, I found your blog from Pak Zawi's. Your blog seems to attract me instantly. I will be back for more.

Hi kbguy, thanks for your visit, you are most welcome! Pak Zawi is a great guy! As for compacts, one i can safely and surely recommend is the Ricoh GX200. Its an awesome camera with dSLR features and its really small.

svllee,
Olympus should be paying you for this advertisement or just give you this camera for free. When you say a camera is good, everybody will believe you. I for one will indeed buy one because lugging around a Sony Alpha 350 and it's accessories around Europe was no joke.

Dear Pak Zawi, thanks for your comments. Indeed every camera has it's different strength and use. I will look out for the reviews of this Olympus soon. DSLRs have become relatively portable nowadays that I see many people carrying them but compacts are still very useful for traveling. High quality compacts however wlil always be a niche product due to the high prices they go for. The retail for this camera is in the region of £750 which is very high. I can wait...
